Cards issued by retailers
When you take out and use an affinity credit card offered by a shop, manufacturer or other retailer, you can earn rewards such as discounts off your future shopping - for example, by earning points that are automatically converted into discount vouchers.
Just to be clear, we're not talking here about store cards, which can only be used in one particular shop or chain - and which often have very high interest rates!
Instead, we're referring to "proper" credit cards that you can use pretty much anywhere - whereever MasterCard, Visa or American Express (whichever is relevant) is accepted.

Other cardholder benefits
When you hold a manufacturer's or shop's credit card, you may also qualify for other offers, either from the retailer themselves or from other partners with whom they've arranged special deals for their cardholders.
As far as the points earning rate is concerned, you'll often earn extra rewards (eg 2 points per £) when you pay for shopping at the retailer who issues your card. All of your other spending - even including your shopping with their competitors - will be rewarded with points at the standard earning rate (eg 1 point per £ spent).
